Beyond Repair

As the oil spill into the Gulf of Mexico continued unabated Saturday Louisiana's Republican governer Bobby Jindal begged for more protective booms and urged the federal government not to repeat the mistakes of Hurricane Katrina.

The federal government's main mistake in Katrina was when the Republican sent the Army Corps of Engineers and most of their budget to Iraq thereby neglecting for years the levies that eventually failed. Similarly, this disaster is wholly owned by the drill baby drill deregulating Republicans and their big oil cronies . Too many years of GOP energy and (de)regulatory policy have sealed the regions fate and at this point there's nothing anybody can do about it.
