The latest direct mail campaign piece by Rep. Mary Fallin (R-OK) complains of wasteful government spending and lists TARP and stimulus spending as examples of legislation she apposed. Yet on the front of her full-color, professionally designed placard, printed in small, thin text, a message reads: "This mailing was prepared, published and mailed at taxpayer expense."
This reminds us of the old adage that conservatives get elected by saying government doesn't work and once elected they prove it. The fact is Republicans spend us into oblivion when they're in charge and then once they're put out of power they immediately criticize the size of the tab and any further spending. Fallin's taxpayer funded rant, while ironic, embarrassing and wasteful, is instructive in allowing us to again point that out.
