Conservatives fanned out on the Sunday Morning talk shows today to suggest the gulf oil spill is Obama's Katrina.
That's like shooting somebody through the heart and then criticizing how long it took them to get to the hospital. It doesn't matter. The damage is done. And you're the one that did it.
Let's be clear, both Katrina and the big oil catastrophe are owned by the Republicans. In Katrina the Republicans sent the Army Corps of Engineers and most of their budget to Iraq, neglecting for years the levies that eventually failed. And here the drill baby drill Republicans have succeeded in largely deregulating the oil industry, drilling everywhere they can, and in general fighting against any environment regulation. In this case specifically, Halliburton and BP colluded to try and get by without installing the safety equipment required for rigs in the North Sea and off Brazil that could have prevented the disaster. Dick Cheney must be so proud.
