The Atlantic Triangular Trade

California state Sen. Leland Yee (D) has introduced a bill to keep Texas school books out of California. The new Texas curriculum has students learning about the “conservative resurgence of the 1980s and 1990s,” and “documents that supported Cold War-era Sen. Joseph McCarthy.” It has also dropped references to the slave trade in favor of the more innocuous ‘Atlantic triangular trade,’ and recasts the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as driven by "Islamic fundamentalism.”

So Texas is trying to teach America's children that Joe McCarthy was actually a pretty good guy and the slave trade wasn't so bad. This victory by the GOP base wont serve the children well and in the long run will make the country less able to compete against better educated populations. California is wise to keep such dangerous, inaccurate propaganda away from its children and the country would do well to ensure these people don't come to national power in November.
